History – Leeming Bowling Club

Ground Clearing  Preparing the soil

The Leeming Bowling Club was founded in September 1987 at a meeting held at the Bullcreek Tavern.

For the first year, our home was at the Fremantle Bowling Club who kindly offered their facilities until the Leeming Bowling Club found their own patch of turf.

Following talks with the Melville City Council in November 1987, the current land occupied by the Leeming Bowls and Recreation club was granted to them and work started on building the club.

The foundation members all got involved in the building of the club from clearing land to planting the grass for the greens.

The first clubhouse was an old class room from the White Gum Valley School which was transported on the back of a truck.

Three years later in September 1990, the club was officially opened by the then Sport and Recreation Minister, Gordon Hill who unveiled a commemorative wall plaque to celebrate the occasion.

It was in June 2003 that the current club rooms were completed.

The development of the new clubhouse started in September 1998 and it was built to support not only the Leeming Bowls and Recreation club but also the Leeming Strikers soccer club and the Spartans Cricket club.

It was officially opened in October 2003 by Mayor Katherine Jackson.

In 2008, two of the grass greens were replaced by synthetic greens and that is where we are today.

Improvements to the surrounds are continually happening with the help of club and the members.
